What data we process

We process personal data only to the extent necessary to operate this website and provide our services. This includes:

  • Usage data (page views, time spent, click paths, device types, operating systems)
  • Log data (IP addresses, access times, browser type) — stored for up to 30 days
  • Contact data — only if you contact us directly
  • Comment data — if you leave a comment via our self-hosted comment system (Remark42)

Hosting & CDN: Cloudflare

This website is hosted via Cloudflare Pages (Cloudflare Inc., 101 Townsend St, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). When you visit our site, your browser connects to Cloudflare’s servers. Cloudflare processes technically necessary data such as your IP address, browser information, and access time.

For statistics we use Cloudflare Web Analytics — a privacy-friendly service that sets no cookies, performs no user tracking, and creates no personal profiles. Only aggregated, anonymized data is collected (page views, referrers, device types, country of origin).

Cloudflare is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.

Comments: Remark42 (self-hosted)

Comments are handled by the open-source software Remark42, which we run on our own servers in Germany — no data is transmitted to third-party comment services. We process the comment content, your chosen name or pseudonym, your email address (only if you sign in via email), and your IP address and timestamp for abuse and spam prevention. You can comment anonymously without creating an account. Comments are stored until you object or request deletion. Legal basis: legitimate interest (Art. 6 (1) f GDPR).

Web analytics: Umami (self-hosted)

For reach measurement we use the open-source analytics software Umami, which we run on our own servers in Germany. Umami works without cookies, creates no personal profiles, and transmits no data to third parties. Only pseudonymized, aggregated data is collected (page views, referrers, browser and device type, approximate country of origin); IP addresses are not stored. Legal basis: legitimate interest (Art. 6 (1) f GDPR).

Embedded YouTube videos

Some pages embed YouTube videos. The preview images are served from our own server; a connection to Google’s servers is only established after you actively click the video. From that point YouTube may set cookies and collect data including your IP address. We use YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com).

Google/YouTube Privacy Policy

Some links on this site are affiliate links (e.g. Amazon and OBI via the Awin network). If you purchase through these links, we receive a small commission at no extra cost to you. No personal data is shared with us in this process.

Your rights

Under GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Rectification of inaccurate data
  • Erasure (“right to be forgotten”)
  • Restriction of processing
  • Data portability
  • Object to processing
  • Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

To exercise your rights, contact us at: [email protected]

We process data on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interests) for website operation, and Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent) where applicable.

Data transfers to third countries

Where data is transferred to the USA, this is done on the basis of the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.
